Protein

Needs rise in the second and third trimesters. Spread intake across meals: meat, fish, eggs, tofu, beans, dairy.

Choline

Important for placental function and fetal brain development. Eggs (cooked), meat, fish, soy, and cruciferous vegetables provide choline; many prenatals have limited choline — discuss intake.

Sample meals

Breakfast: egg + rice. Lunch: fish + vegetables + rice. Dinner: tofu stir-fry + soup.

Notes

Fully cook eggs and meat; avoid raw egg dishes.
