Why heartburn is common

Progesterone relaxes the esophageal sphincter; the growing uterus presses upward. Symptoms often peak in the third trimester.

Eating tips

  • Smaller meals; finish dinner 2–3 hours before lying down.
  • Mild flavors; reduce very spicy or fatty triggers if they worsen symptoms.
  • Elevate head of bed slightly.

Soothing foods

Oat porridge, banana, yogurt, ginger tea in moderation if tolerated.

When to see your doctor

Pain with swallowing, vomiting blood, or symptoms unresponsive to safe lifestyle changes — ask about approved antacids.
