Typical nausea vs severe nausea
Mild nausea often improves after weeks 12–14. Hyperemesis gravidarum involves persistent vomiting, weight loss, and dehydration — it needs medical treatment.
Early eating strategies
- Sip fluids slowly: water, coconut water, thin soup.
- Dry foods before getting up: crackers, toast.
- Avoid strong greasy smells; cool or warm foods may sit better than steaming hot dishes.
- Six to eight very small meals.
Go to the hospital if
- Cannot keep fluids down for more than 24 hours.
- Very dark urine or little urination.
- Dizziness, fast heartbeat, obvious weight loss.
Do not take someone else’s anti-nausea medication without prescription.
