First day

Hospital staff usually advance diet stepwise (fluids → soft → regular) depending on bowel sounds and nausea. Do not rush solid heavy meals.

First week

  • Soft, easy-to-digest foods: porridge (cháo), soup, steamed fish, well-cooked vegetables.
  • Small frequent meals; protein and fiber support healing.
  • Drink water; fiber helps if opioids cause constipation (ask before laxatives).

Weeks after

Gradually return to a balanced diet rich in protein, iron, and vitamin C for wound healing. Walking aids recovery when cleared.

Avoid

Very greasy, spicy foods if they worsen nausea. Alcohol while breastfeeding — discuss with your clinician.
