Hypertension can worsen 48 hours to weeks postpartum even if readings were normal before.

Symptoms

Same as in pregnancy: headache, vision changes, swelling, upper abdominal pain.

Follow-up

• Home blood pressure if advised.
• Attend postpartum visits.
• Report severe symptoms promptly.

Breastfeeding

Many antihypertensives are compatible—ask your clinician before stopping meds.
