Signs

Hard pellets, straining, crying with stool, or going many days without stool (patterns vary by age).

Diet adjustments

  • Offer water with solids (small sips).
  • Fiber: pear, prune puree in moderation, oats, peas.
  • Continue breast milk or formula adequate for age.

Avoid

Excessive constipating foods alone (too much rice without fruit/veg); do not give honey under 12 months.

See a doctor for

Blood in stool, vomiting, poor feeding, or distended abdomen.
