Why they matter

Calcium supports the baby’s skeleton and helps maintain the mother’s bone stores. Vitamin D aids calcium absorption. Needs increase in the second and third trimesters.

Food sources

  • Pasteurized milk, yogurt, cheese.
  • Tofu set with calcium, small fish with edible bones (well cooked).
  • Leafy greens, sesame (vừa lượng).
  • Sun exposure helps vitamin D; food alone may not be enough in some climates.

Notes

  • If lactose intolerant, choose lactose-free milk or fortified alternatives.
  • Do not mega-dose without medical advice.
  • Prenatal vitamins may already contain vitamin D — check totals with your clinician.
