Why they matter
Calcium supports the baby’s skeleton and helps maintain the mother’s bone stores. Vitamin D aids calcium absorption. Needs increase in the second and third trimesters.
Food sources
- Pasteurized milk, yogurt, cheese.
- Tofu set with calcium, small fish with edible bones (well cooked).
- Leafy greens, sesame (vừa lượng).
- Sun exposure helps vitamin D; food alone may not be enough in some climates.
Notes
- If lactose intolerant, choose lactose-free milk or fortified alternatives.
- Do not mega-dose without medical advice.
- Prenatal vitamins may already contain vitamin D — check totals with your clinician.
