Nausea-friendly sample menu for the first trimester

Small bland meals and snacks when morning sickness hits — not a substitute for treatment of severe hyperemesis.

Principles

  • Very small meals every 2–3 hours.
  • Prefer cool or warm foods with mild odor.
  • Keep dry crackers by the bed before standing up.

Sample day

  • Early morning: dry crackers + water.
  • Meal 1: plain rice porridge (cháo), boiled egg.
  • Meal 2: pasteurized yogurt.
  • Meal 3: rice noodles (bún) with lean boiled pork and blanched greens.
  • Meal 4: banana.
  • Evening: soft rice, lightly steamed fish with ginger, pumpkin soup.

Avoid

Very spicy or deep-fried dishes if they trigger vomiting. Severe nausea — hospital care, not forcing food.
