Current principles

Major guidelines no longer recommend delaying common allergens (peanut, egg) for all babies without risk. Introduce one new food at a time when developmentally ready.

How to trial

  • Start with a small amount at home in the daytime.
  • Wait a few days before the next new food.
  • For higher-risk infants, ask your pediatrician before peanut or egg.

Mild signs

Localized rash, mild vomiting — stop the food and contact your clinician.

Emergency

Lip/tongue swelling, breathing difficulty, widespread hives, collapse — call emergency services immediately.
