Position and latch

  • Tummy-to-tummy, nose opposite nipple, wait for wide mouth.
  • More areola in mouth, chin touching breast, audible swallowing.
  • Break suction with a clean finger if pain persists after adjustment.

Nipple pain

  • Check latch first; air-dry milk on nipples after feeds.
  • Lanolin or hydrogel pads may help; cracked bleeding nipples need professional review.

“Low supply” worries

  • Frequent feeding builds supply; watch wet diapers and weight gain, not feelings alone.
  • Pumping output does not always equal breastfeeding supply.

See a specialist when

Baby not regaining birth weight, fewer than expected wet diapers, extreme pain, or maternal fever — seek lactation or medical support promptly.
