Position and latch
- Tummy-to-tummy, nose opposite nipple, wait for wide mouth.
- More areola in mouth, chin touching breast, audible swallowing.
- Break suction with a clean finger if pain persists after adjustment.
Nipple pain
- Check latch first; air-dry milk on nipples after feeds.
- Lanolin or hydrogel pads may help; cracked bleeding nipples need professional review.
“Low supply” worries
- Frequent feeding builds supply; watch wet diapers and weight gain, not feelings alone.
- Pumping output does not always equal breastfeeding supply.
See a specialist when
Baby not regaining birth weight, fewer than expected wet diapers, extreme pain, or maternal fever — seek lactation or medical support promptly.
