Why it matters

High blood pressure in pregnancy can progress to preeclampsia. Diet alone does not cure hypertension but supports overall health.

Eating suggestions

  • Balanced meals: vegetables, fruits, lean protein, whole grains.
  • Moderate sodium unless your clinician prescribes strict limits.
  • Adequate calcium and protein as normally recommended.

Monitoring

  • Attend all prenatal visits; home BP monitoring if advised.
  • Report headache, vision changes, upper abdominal pain, sudden swelling.

Emergency

Severe headache, shortness of breath, or BP readings in the danger zone your clinician defined — go to hospital immediately.
