Why it matters
Maternal antibodies protect the newborn before their own vaccines. Some infections are more severe in pregnancy.
Commonly recommended (international guidance; local schedules vary)
- Influenza in flu season.
- Tdap (pertussis) each pregnancy, often between 27–36 weeks.
- COVID-19 per current national recommendations.
- Hepatitis B if at risk — case by case.
Notes
Live vaccines are generally avoided in pregnancy except special situations. Bring vaccination records to prenatal visits.
After birth
Catch up on any missed vaccines; ensure household members vaccinated against pertussis and flu around the newborn.
