Alcohol
There is no known safe amount of alcohol in pregnancy. Avoid entirely to prevent fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.
Tobacco and vaping
Smoking increases risks of miscarriage, preterm birth, low birth weight, and SIDS. Vaping is not proven safe — quit if possible before or as early as possible in pregnancy.
Support
- Counseling, nicotine replacement only under medical supervision.
- Partners should avoid smoking around the pregnant person.
After birth
Continue smoke-free home for baby; alcohol passes into breast milk — plan accordingly.
