What is miscarriage?
Pregnancy loss before about 20 weeks (definitions vary slightly). Common in the first trimester; not always preventable or the parent's fault.
Signs to assess
- Vaginal bleeding (red or brown).
- Lower abdominal cramping.
- Heavy bleeding, dizziness, or fainting.
What to do
- Contact your healthcare provider — do not self-diagnose.
- Rest; avoid intercourse while bleeding unless cleared.
- Do not take unprescribed strong pain or bleeding medications.
Emotional support
Loss can be deeply distressing; ask about counseling or support groups if needed.
